Howdy folks,
I used to have a working copy of SBOS 1.37 but it was overwritten
when I installed SBOS 2.04. Could one of you kind souls UUencode your copy
and mail it to me? Apparently, SBOS 1.37 has been removed from both EPAS and
WUARCHIVE (I think someone mentioned that Gravis never intended to release
it) and I can't find it anywhere else.
Thanks in advance,
Evan H. Bynum

As many of you know (and mailed me about), the digest went
goofy again.
(Everytime I try to put in something new, all the previous
stuff falls apart; this time it was the new code to put the latest
digest up on archive.epas. Guess I'll have to pull that 'editor' bit
out of my resume. ;-} )
So, in a nutshell, v03i03 is gone. If by some strange
occurance someone got a copy, please email it to me and I'll send out
a special issue. Otherwise, please resend any posts you had for that
day.
Sorry for the trouble, folks.

I just installed (actually about 6 hours ago) and with Ultrasound, heres what I got
Compressed 50M of Free space to make 99M
copied a couple of wave files. Worked fine, didnt notice a difference loading
them from the uncompressed or compressed drives.
Sounded the same also.
Installed zone66 on the compressed drive ran no problems(sound and all)
After reading the DSD from 4/4 Tried flidemo and mididemo
no problems (bear in mind Im still using 1.22 (whatever)and their fixed windows drivers (patchmanager 1.02)
all that worked fine also (cakewalk demo, media player, wave for windows, patchmanarer, Ican hear it)
So ... so far looks pretty good
(figured Id write this since all I ever read is about what DOESNT work
on the DSD).
A couple of notes ,questions??? I notice a delay when running large programs
in windows after installing DOS they say theres only a 5%delay but its
a little more than that. If anyone has any advice or has the same problem
send me some email and maybe we can talk it thru. Also if anyone has the balls
to compress their WHOLE hard drive, send me a note Im kinda scared to mess with it till I hear some reaction (since it cannot be uncompressed)
(back to the delay part a good example is Amipro3.0 THeres a good 20sec delay
when you first pull down the file menu) after that everything moves smoothly)
anyways, ciao

ps sorry about the typing its quite early/late.
o ya sbos 2.04 seems to load fine (i didnt try any games though)

Forget it. You need a 56001. Check on archive.epas.utoronto.ca where i
had uploaded some time ago a program that takes a .wav and give the notes.
It takes a hell of a long time. Nowhere near realtime. A midi kit for
guitar is the best solution.
Now, regularly i see questions and the answer is on archive.epas.utoronto.ca.
Are there people without FTP?

.CMF and .ROL are music files, not sound files, like .MID and .MOD. for these
you need a music player specific to each. All are on epas.
.SND, .WAV, .VOC, .AIFF, .IFF, raw 8 bit/16 bit, signed/unsigned etc... are
all sound files and can be converted one to another by using SOX, also on
epas. Once you have a .wav or raw file (.snd, .sb, .ub, .sw, .uw etc...) you
can play it with playfile.

Am i the only one that think waffer multimedia newsletter has a bias...
>The samples are clean and rich, making it the best synthesiser unit available
>for the PC today.
I guess it speaks by itself...
BTW, Wave is far from excellent compared to what is available on the
Macintosh. It is actually pretty pathetic, and doesn't work with the GUS
with 16 bit files and Turtle Beach never got around to give me a solution.
And what do you say of this gem:
>"Wave, I believe, takes its name from the suffix that has been given some
>sound files (.wav). And although many may differ in their opinion as to how or
>why Wave is the name, I feel confident I have stumbled across the reason. Wave
>implies water, lapping at a surface."
Probably why in french we have two different words: "ondes" and "vagues", so
people dont get confused 8).
>Turtle Beach has made the use of its program very simple..and through its use
>precise documentation even a novice will be up and running in no time at all.
>And pro's can even learn a thing or two from the concise and tightly regimented
>users manual.
Dont believe the hype. As informative as the GUS documentation... 8)
(Unless they have a new user manual).
Also, a lot of errors, either typos or real errors, like saying the GUS is
a ROM device, the SB16 sampling a 44 MHz etc...
But i dont want to sound like it's worth nothing. Far from it! It's well
presented, with embedded objects. Most of the reviews are correct and all
of the things i noted were i think all related to the fact that Turtle Beach
and Creative Labs have had a good relationship with the soundblaster
newsletter and the honeymoon is not over yet, so you wont read any dirty
details... (i mean it. Not a single thing against the SB16 and Wave, both
flawed products - i know i bought Wave and it was a total waste of money).
